Roslyn is a Vocational Learning Assessment Manager at Fife College and shares her insights and advice about completing an SVQ qualification in Health and Social Care or Social Services (children and young people). Roslyn also explains the role of assessors, what support is available and the benefits of achieving an SVQ qualification.

Vilmantas is a support practitioner with Cornerstone providing care at home and housing support services. He was awarded Cornerstone Learner of the Year award for 2025 for his SVQ assignments that led to substantial improvements in challenging areas, such as mealtime routines for a supported person with high anxiety and trauma.

We want everyone to know that registering with the SSSC means committing to being qualified for your role. Our #SSSCregistered campaign supports the social care and children and young people workforce to gain their necessary qualifications for registration and tell people about it.  

We’ve made changes to the endorsement section of SSSC registration applications to help us learn more about why people apply late and what organisations are doing to manage this.

It has now been over a year since we introduced significant changes to registration, qualifications and skills to help make registration simpler and easier to understand

When an employee ends or adds a new employment to their registration we send an email to countersignatories who have asked to receive these notifications. For larger organisations this can result in lots of emails.

Applications to the 2025-26 Voluntary Sector Development Fund (VSDF) are now open. The fund supports voluntary sector organisations providing social services that are a registered charity and are registered with the Care Inspectorate.

Our recent consultation on expanding the Register showed strong support for including the proposed new groups. The SSSC Council approved the proposal in May and we’re waiting for Scottish Ministers approval of the recommendations before going ahead.

We’re making changes to our website and to do this we need to shut down MySSSC and the SSSC website on Monday 26 May until the afternoon of Tuesday 27 May. 

From 3 May, we’ll start asking a sample of registrants who are due to submit their annual declaration to also provide additional information about how they have completed CPL and demonstrated learning against the core learning elements. 

In June 2024 we changed CPL for registrants to focus on key skills and knowledge required depending on your role and the stage of your career, for example induction or changing jobs. Registrants need to cover core learning elements to meet the CPL requirements.
