Employers SSSC registration

Verifying your staff’s continuous professional learning (CPL)

From 3 May, we’ll start asking a sample of registrants who are due to submit their annual declaration to also provide additional information about how they have completed CPL and demonstrated learning against the core learning elements.

Registrants will be asked to provide their CPL details to their employer to verify the learning has taken place.

The annual declaration and CPL process

A month before the registrant’s annual declaration is due, we’ll send them an email to let them know. They complete the annual declaration and answer questions to confirm they’ve completed their CPL.

The registrant then selects the relevant person in your organisation to verify their learning. Once they verify the CPL, the annual declaration is automatically submitted to the SSSC.

An email is then sent to the employer to confirm the registrant has completed the learning.

How we will use the CPL information

The information we gather about registrants’ learning will help us create resources for people working in social work, social care and children and young people services.

CPL requirements

In June 2024 we changed CPL for registrants to focus on key skills and knowledge required depending on role and the stage of career, for example induction or changing jobs. Registrants need to cover core learning elements to meet the CPL requirements.

We’ve moved away from recording hours and days to focus on key skills and knowledge required at important career stages, such as induction, change of role and return to practice.

The CPL requirements include core learning elements suitable for workers based on their work and career.

Read about the core learning elements on the CPL website.
