Employers are responsible for making sure new staff apply in time and that they’re registered within six months.
You should make sure you provide new staff with all the details they need to apply for registration as part of their induction and support them to complete their application.
Why is it important?
If staff aren’t registered within six months of starting their role, they may not be able to continue working.
Sometimes we hold information about people that means they may not be suitable for the role. The sooner they apply, the sooner we can share that information with you and investigate matters further to decide if the individual is fit to practise.
Registering means that they’re required to maintain their registration in several ways, they need to:
- work to the standards in the SSSC Codes of Practice
- undertake continuous professional learning (CPL)
- complete their annual declaration to keep their details up to date and confirm they’ve completed CPL.
- pay their annual fee
