Our recent consultation on expanding the Register showed strong support for including the proposed new groups. The SSSC Council approved the proposal in May and we’re waiting for Scottish Ministers approval of the recommendations before going ahead.

We are consulting on pre and post qualifying standards for social work education. The standards will form part of the updated and expanded Framework for Social Work Education and will be the foundation for professional pathways in social work. We plan to publish the standards in 2026.

We’ve improved the Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) portal for the Early Learning and Childcare Workforce to provide better support for the workforce.

From 3 May, we’ll start asking a sample of registrants who are due to submit their annual declaration to also provide additional information about how they have completed CPL and demonstrated learning against the core learning elements.

In June 2024 we changed CPL for registrants to focus on key skills and knowledge required depending on your role and the stage of your career, for example induction or changing jobs. Registrants need to cover core learning elements to meet the CPL requirements.
