Importance of leadership
We understand how important leadership learning is across social work, social care and children and young people services across Scotland.
Your leadership skills can make a real difference to the service you provide, and the outcomes for the individuals you support. It’s also a core learning element in your continuous professional learning (CPL) requirements.
What’s new
We now have a dedicated Leadership section on our Learning Zone with all leadership learning easily accessible to you in one place.
Our My Learning resources will help you to think about the leadership skills you already show in your work and explore those you might find useful to develop.
The Leading Others resources will give you confidence, knowledge and skills to motivate and inspire others, so they can reach their full potential. You can also explore how you can use supervision, coaching and mentoring to support others to develop reflective practice, grow as professionals and understand the impact their actions have on the people around them and the individuals they support.
Both sections are packed with useful videos and other resources to support your learning as well as links to other organisations where you will find more information to support leadership development.
Visit the leadership learning section on our Learning Zone.
MyLearning Badges
We’ve developed two new leadership MyLearning Badges so you can evidence your leadership learning as part of your CPL. By applying for the badges, you can gain recognition for the knowledge and skills you've acquired through your learning. You can share the badges online, in a portfolio or download them as printable certificates.

You can hear more about leadership learning and why it's important from SSSC Learning and Development Adviser, Paula Quinn.
Keeping a record
It’s important to keep a record of your learning to support your CPL and professional development. This should include the activity, what you learned and your reflections on how you will put this learning into practice in your workplace. There is guidance to help you reflect and record your leadership learning.
