Scottish Government consultation on new Register groups

The Scottish Government is consulting on proposed changes to SSSC registration requirements to add three new groups to the SSSC’s Register. The three groups are people working in adult day care services, offender accommodation services and social work assistants.

The consultation Proposed Changes to SSSC Registration Requirements asks for views on this proposal and includes several changes that will affect people working in social services and their employers. It follows our 2025 consultation on new Register groups, which showed strong support for expanding registration to more groups.

We encourage employers and those working in or using services to share your views in the consultation, which is open until 24 September. This will be particularly relevant for those in local authority or commissioned social work services, justice services and adult social care services.

The consultation also includes proposals that all social workers working in Scotland register with the SSSC even if registered with one of the other UK social work regulators and updating the list of organisations workers can register with that means they don’t need to register with the SSSC.

Respond to the consultation on the Scottish Government website Proposed changes to SSSC registration requirements.

The consultation closes on 24 September.
