Scottish Apprenticeship Week - Ellie's story

This Scottish Apprenticeship Week we’ll be sharing stories from apprentices working in social care and children and young people services across Scotland to learn more about the vital role they play in supporting individuals, employers, and the people they provide care for.

Today, we share Ellie’s story.

Ellie is a Senior Care Coordinator at Trust-Care Staffing which provides reliable, experienced carers for emergency, long term and permanent cover for care homes, housing associations, community-based care organisation, charities and care at home services across Scotland.

Ellie started her modern apprenticeship in Business and Administration in March 2021.

Why did you choose modern apprenticeship?

I chose a modern apprenticeship because I wanted to learn on the job and gain a qualification as well as earning money and gaining experience in the social services and healthcare sector with a focus on recruitment.

What has your experience been?

My experience has been great. I have learnt so much in the last three years working with Trust-Care. To have started as an apprentice and now a senior in my role is incredible and I would advise anyone to take the apprenticeship route.

What is a typical day like?

I start work at 8.00am when I go to the office and start actioning my inbox and make a to do list on what needs to be completed. I speak with my team and make a plan. Currently I am screening candidates for a role in the care sector and making sure they have the required experience and interviewing them for available roles.

What do you like most about your job?

I love speaking with people and building a great relationship with them. I love recruiting and seeing people happy and out working by the end of the process.

How relevant is the qualification requirements to the work you are doing?

My qualification was business and administration which helped me massively as I work all day on my computer.

What words of advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

Do it. The best decision I ever made, who wouldn’t want to gain a qualification and earn money while working.
