New social work graduate apprenticeship

We’re working with Scottish Government, Skills Development Scotland and other partners to develop a graduate apprenticeship route to becoming a social worker.

The graduate apprenticeship will combine work-based training and academic learning to gain a social work degree.

The standards required to achieve the graduate apprenticeship degree are same as the requirements for students studying through current routes, just delivered in a different way. It creates an additional pathway for those wishing to enter the social work profession who are unable to access study through the current routes.

Scottish Government has provided an overview of the development process which includes:

  • the stages of development
  • consultation
  • university involvement
  • the development group
  • the employer’s role
  • funding
  • the approval process.
