Developed in partnership between the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Right Decision Service (now based within Health Improvement Scotland), specifically for the social care workforce, the app builds on existing knowledge and good practice and enables workers to have national guidance at their fingertips when they need it.
Thanks to all users who have given feedback through the app over the last year. Through your feedback, you have helped us to improve the resource and gather information on the impact of the app as a practice support tool. We will continue to make improvements based on your feedback.
A year in review
Since its launch, the app has 4,390 unique users with 15,272 total views. Feedback from a broad cross section of users, including care at home workers, laundry assistants and care home managers, told us:
- 95% of respondents said the app was likely to improve knowledge and understanding around IPC
- 95% of respondents said the app was likely to improve practice for them and their team
- 100% of respondents said they would recommend the app to colleagues
- 75% of users are using the app for guidance in direct care settings
- 22% of users are using the app outside of care settings for their professional learning.

National guidance
The app is based on the NES pocketbook Preventing Infection in Social Care Settings and aligns with national IPC guidance, in particular the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual and the Care Home Infection Prevention and Control Manual.
The app is part is of the Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway (SIPCEP). SIPCEP learning resources are aimed at new and experienced staff and students working in health and social care.
