Graduate apprentice, Beth's story

This Scottish Apprenticeship Week we’ll be sharing stories from across the sector of the vital role apprenticeships play in supporting individuals, employers and people who use social care and early years services in Scotland. Today, we share Beth's story. #ScotAppWeek22 #LifeChangingWork

Why did you choose a graduate apprenticeship?

I found myself at a crossroads with my career following two redundancies in the space of a year. Consequently, I was looking for a role which would provide me with some degree of job security. The chance to retrain within the early years sector seemed to provide the perfect opportunity to gain employment while studying towards a degree and embarking on a new career.

What has your experience been?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the graduate apprenticeship (GA). I feel that the course has been very carefully designed to make sure that students gain essential knowledge and experience to enable them to become quality practitioners.

We have been supported throughout our journey by a team of dedicated staff who have offered guidance and encouragement in some very challenging times.

What are the benefits of completing a graduate apprenticeship?

The GA allows practitioners to gain a broad insight into all matters relating to the early years sector in Scotland which supports the Scottish Government's ambition to make Scotland the best place to grow up.

The course has covered many valuable learning opportunities relating to the theoretical and actual delivery of pedagogical practices to promote the development of practitioners' knowledge, understanding and enquiry.

The GA helps to provide the early years sector with high-quality, informed professionals who can lead others in their desire to deliver excellent experiences to the children and families they support.
