Before we can make any changes, our legislation needs updated and Scottish Government is consulting now on the changes they may need to make. If our legislation is updated, we will start making changes to some of the registration processes early next year as we prepare to go live from early summer 2024.
What changes are we proposing?
1. Reducing the number of Register parts to four:
- social care workforce
- children and young people workforce
- social workers
- social work students.
2. Introducing ongoing registration with an annual declaration, removing the need for registrants to renew registration every three or five years.
3. The time to apply for registration will be set at three months.
4. The information available on our public register.
5. Updated Codes of Practice for Social Service Workers and their Employers.
6. Changes to qualifications.
7. A new approach to continuous professional learning.
8. Return to practice requirement for social workers.
You can find out more about the proposals on our website here Registration is changing.
