We want to hear views from people working in social work, social care and children and young people services and their employers to help finalise the new process. We plan to make the changes next spring.
Our CPL review and consultation is part of our wider Future Proofing Programme, which includes changes to our Register, qualifications for registration and the Codes of Practice.
What’s changing?
The new CPL requirements aim to support the registered workforce to have the right skills at the right time in their career journeys and to deliver better outcomes for the people using services.
We want to move away from the current model of recording hours and days to focusing on key skills and knowledge depending on your role and career stage, like induction, a change of role or return to practice.
Other changes include:
- an annual declaration to show you’ve completed your CPL
- core learning elements for each Register group
- new requirements for newly qualified social workers (NQSW), to support the roll-out of the mandatory supported first year of practice
- flexibility for SSSC to revise requirements to respond to emerging skills gaps.
Involving you
We developed the new requirements using the Scottish Approach to Service Design with key stakeholders and registrants working in the social care sector, holding online sessions to inform the changes based on their own experiences.
