Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024

We’re supporting Scottish Apprenticeship Week by spreading the word about the role apprentices play in supporting individuals, employers and people who use social care and children and young people services in Scotland.

This year’s theme is Skills Generation which aims to highlight how apprenticeships are key in developing the next generation of Scotland’s skilled workforce.

Apprenticeships allow people from diverse backgrounds and all abilities to work while training, gaining qualifications that reflect the skills and knowledge they need, alongside hands-on learning.

We’ll share real life stories from apprentices working in social services all week, as well as highlighting the information and support available for anyone looking to get started.

You can follow the stories on social media using the hashtags #ScotAppWeek24, #SkillsGeneration and #LifeChangingWork.

Our role

We manage the modern apprenticeship frameworks for Social Services and Healthcare (SSH) and Social Services (Children and Young People) (CYP). We work with employers to develop qualification structures and apprenticeship frameworks, including modern, technical and professional levels.

Did you know?

  • In 2022-23 we certificated 1,952 modern apprenticeships in Social Services (Children and Young people) and 1,959 Social Services and Healthcare (SSH).
  • In 2022-23, 80% of apprentices on Social Services and Healthcare (SSH) were over 25.
  • In 2022-23, 69% of apprentices in Social Services Children and Young People (CYP) were aged 16-24.

Financial contributions for learning and assessment

If you are considering an apprentice in your service there is funding available from Skills Development Scotland. You can view the contribution rates for social service apprenticeship frameworks on their website. Enhanced contributions (at the 16-19 full rate) may be available to improve learning experiences for disabled apprentices and apprentices with care experience up to the age of 29 years.
