Understanding Positive Behaviour Support ebook

We are pleased to launch a new Understanding Positive Behaviour Support learning resource developed in partnership with the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Community of Practice.

The PBS Community of Practice was set up by the Scottish Government and is made up of key stakeholders including professionals, families and carers. The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD) facilitate it and it’s chaired by Dr Anne MacDonald from the Scottish Government and the University of Glasgow. The PBS Community of Practice contributes to the Scottish Government’s Coming Home agenda.

‘We are delighted to work with the PBS Community of Practice to develop this new ebook that will provide learning opportunities, not just for social care workers, but for families and carers too, in supporting people with complex needs.

‘As the workforce regulator, we are committed to supporting the development of the social work, social care and children and young people workforce to deliver high standards of practice and are continually developing new learning resources to support this.

‘We continue to work with Scottish Government, key partners and the sector to develop these resources and to make sure they meet workforce needs’.

Laura Lamb, Acting Director of Workforce, Education and Standards, SSSC.

Who is the new resource for?

This innovative ebook is for anyone working in health or social care supporting people with learning disabilities. It will also be useful for those working in education, for family members and other carers.

What is PBS?

PBS is an evidence based and effective approach for improving quality of life for people with learning disabilities, including those with complex support needs or behavioural challenges.

It is a person-centred framework, that supports human rights and promotes a life without unnecessary restriction, treating everyone equally and working in partnership with people with learning disabilities and their families.
