SSSC response to the EHRC racial inequality report

We welcome the publication of the findings of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s inquiry into racial inequality in health and social care workplaces and its focus on the challenges faced by minority ethnic workers in adult social care.

We contributed to several stages of the inquiry and note the references in the report to our role, regulation and workforce data. We’re reviewing the report and will reflect on and consider how we might respond to the recommendations related to our role.

We are already taking steps to address some of the issues identified in the report. For example, we agree with and are taking steps to improve our understanding of the ethnic minority workforce in social work, social care and early years.

We are focused on developing a better picture of the diversity of the workforce. We will use the findings to raise awareness of the profile of the sector, the challenges and opportunities and to address any issues.

All SSSC registered workers can provide or update their equalities information using their online MySSSC account and we strongly encourage them to, so we can further improve our understanding of the workforce.
