Qualifications and Apprenticeships framework review – our progress

We are continuing our work to review the qualification and modern apprenticeship frameworks and are pleased to provide a progress update.

Our progress so far

We are working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and a range of stakeholders, holding five Qualification Design Team (QDT) meetings with each attended by an average of 64 participants. SDS have completed a survey with apprentices, with the outcomes informing the development of the apprenticeship framework.

We organised several focus groups for individuals with lived experience of care or support, across different age groups. The participants offered valuable insights into what makes good social care practice. Key discussion themes included building relationships, supporting safety and wellbeing, collaboration, knowledge and skills and quality of care. Their feedback is used to support the QDT in making informed decisions about the structure and content of the qualifications.

What’s next

We are planning broader sector engagement by launching an online consultation on our website, scheduled for January 2026.
