We’ve given the site a fresh new look with additional resources for people looking to start a career in social work, social care or children and young people services and for social service employers looking to recruit new staff.
Laura Lamb, SSSC Acting Director of Workforce, Education and Standards said:
‘We are pleased to launch the refreshed careers website at a time when the social care workforce across Scotland continue to face pressures due to staffing and recruitment challenges.
‘We understand these pressures and worked on the careers website update in collaboration with employers and workers from across the sector as well as employability groups and training providers.
‘We will continue to develop the site and employability resources to make sure it meets the needs of everyone across social work, social care or children and young people services.
‘We’ll also keep working with partners to develop new approaches to support recruitment, making sure people understand how they can do life changing work in social work, social care or children and young people services and the great career opportunities it offers.’
What’s new?
We’ve made changes to make it easier to see career journeys and share real stories of how people have progressed between different roles across social work, social care and children and young people services.
Our new interactive qualification pathways help you to explore the different routes available to progress your career while allowing employers to retain valuable staff.
We’ve created new learning resources for people considering a career in social care and people with caring responsibilities who already have many of the skills required and we showcase the range of opportunities on offer. Learners can work at their own pace, extend learning through 360˚ videos and we also give links to further information.
Supporting recruitment in social care
We understand the pressures faced by employers to recruit the right people to their service and have published new tools to help. These include guidance for employers on safe recruitment, a ten-step guide to a career in social care and updated guidance on recruiting overseas workers, refugees and asylum seekers.
