Learning more about late applications

We’ve made changes to the endorsement section of SSSC registration applications to help us learn more about why people apply late and what organisations are doing to manage this.

We’ve made changes to the endorsement section of SSSC registration applications to help us learn more about why people apply late and what organisations are doing to manage this.

We’ve added two new fields to the endorsement section for you to complete:

  • reasons for not applying within the required three months
  • what your organisation is doing to manage late registration applications.

Three-month timescale

We’ve been monitoring if applicants are applying to register within the required three months since legislation introduced the reduced timescale in June 2024.

This changed to make sure people apply for registration sooner which lowers the risk of someone working unregulated. New registrants must apply within three months of starting their role and gain registration within six months.

More information

If we need more information on reasons for late applications, we may follow up with countersignatories and applicants.

If we’ve got concerns about late applications or patterns of behaviour in organisations, we may make referrals to our Fitness to Practise Department and share information with the Care Inspectorate.
