We are committed to delivering our work with a high standard of customer service and your responses help us provide improved services, events and learning resources.
We believe in designing our services with you, this is the key to achieving our vision to be a public service that makes a positive and lasting difference. Our Strategic Plan 2023-2026 describes what we are doing and the outcomes we want to achieve.
Our 2023 survey
Our 2023 survey asked registrants for their views in relation to key areas of our work, including:
- what they think of the registration process
- the benefits of registration how we communicate
- the level of our customer service.
In 2023 we received 8,254 responses and used the insights gained to improve our service.
Promoting the sector

We should visit and listen to care staff.
We did…
Our Council Members are out and about visiting services across Scotland to learn more about the different types of care and support happening in Scotland’s social work, social care and children and young people services. In the last year, Council Members visited 17 services across different local authority areas, including Shetland.
SSSC senior management and other SSSC staff are also visiting services to learn more, meet staff and hear about their day-to-day experiences. These visits help to inform our work and we share our learning from visits across all our departments.

We should promote the work of the workforce to the wider public.
We did…
We continue to promote the work of the workforce to the public through our newsletters, website and social media. We’ve delivered a range of campaigns celebrating the value of careers in care over the past year, including:
- Careers in Care
- Adult Social Care Careers Campaign
- Care Experienced Week
- You Can Care Week
- Scottish Apprenticeship Week
- No Wrong Path Day
- World Social Work Day.
We also work alongside Scottish Government on their national adult social care recruitment advertising campaigns.
SSSC registration

70% of respondents found the process of SSSC registration easy.
We did…
Although lots of respondents told us they found registering with us easy, our recent changes aim to make it even easier. SSSC registration changed on 3 June 2024 to help make being registered with us simple to do and easy to understand. The changes will make sure that people know about the benefits and value of being registered and the standards, skills and qualifications needed to deliver high quality care. Find out what’s changed.

72% of respondents thought SSSC registration is beneficial and 64% felt it made them feel recognised as a professional.
We did…
Our registrants can access a range of free resources, including learning apps and Open Badges, to support them to develop their knowledge and expertise. Using our resources can help support registrants in their day-to-day practice and it can contribute towards their continuous professional learning (CPL).
We’ve developed a new CPL website which launched in May to help registrants find relevant learning opportunities that focus on the key skills and knowledge they require.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
You said…
72% of respondents thought our work promotes equality, diversity and inclusion.
We did…
We aim to treat everyone fairly and with respect with equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of our work.
Our People Strategy 2021-2024 sets out what we are doing to make sure our staff are skilled, professional and passionate about the work we do. It outlines our commitment to be a healthy and inclusive organisation. All staff receive training on equality, diversity and inclusion and we continue to look at how we can make the SSSC a more diverse and inclusive workplace. We are also working to become a trauma informed organisation.
We have published the Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Mainstreaming and Outcomes Report 2021-2025 and our Strategic Plan 2023-2026 makes sure there is a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion through all our work.
We’re analysing the equalities data our registrants provide through MySSSC to help us learn about the diversity of registrants, so we support them appropriately. We plan to publish a report on this data in the next couple of months.
Customer service
You said…
Over 80% of respondents were satisfied with the level of customer service we provide.
We did…
We’re pleased that lots of you were satisfied by our customer service but we always want to improve and we use the insights from the survey to develop an improvement action plan. This plan informs our future work to make sure we keep our customers’ experience at the centre.
We continue to invest in staff training and carry out regular quality assurance to ensure the quality of customer service provided remains high across all departments.
SSSC events
You said…
Some registrants struggle to attend our events due to working hours or events not being local to you.
We did…
We’ve delivered a mix of online and face-to-face events in response to the kind of events employers, representative organisations and others told us they wanted.
We consider the timing and format of events to make them as accessible as possible and, if we can, will provide video recordings or materials online for those who can’t make it.
Have your say
We sent our 2024 survey by email to all registrants today, Monday 12 August 2024 and we encourage everyone to complete this to share their views and experiences of SSSC registration.
The survey will close at 5.00pm on Monday 9 September 2024.
