Consultation on the review of Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and Apprenticeships in social services

We want to hear your views on proposed changes to Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and apprenticeships in social services.

SVQs are the Scottish Social Services Council's (SSSC) benchmark qualifications for registration. They make sure people working in social care have the right skills, knowledge and qualifications to support individuals who use care services.

We are reviewing six SVQs and apprenticeships:

  • SVQ Social Services and Healthcare at levels 6, 7 and 9
  • SVQ Social Services Children and Young People at levels 6, 7 and 9.

We want to make sure qualifications are up to date so the registered workforce has the necessary skills to meet the needs of people who use care and support services. We also want to ensure qualifications and apprenticeships meet the needs of the social care and children and young people's workforce.

Who we want to hear from

We want to hear from people who work in social services, employers, training providers, individuals with lived experience of care or support services and people who care for someone who uses services.

Your feedback is valued and will help us shape the final qualifications and apprenticeships.

You can watch a short video explaining the consultation on our website.

Please share this consultation as widely as possible.
