More than £1 million for workforce training

Seventy-five voluntary organisations across Scotland are benefitting from grants totalling more than £1 million to help social care workers gain qualifications, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) announced today.

The funding from the Voluntary Sector Development Fund (VSDF) will support nearly 1,000 social care workers in care at home and housing support services to gain the qualifications they need to register with the SSSC.

Chief Executive Lorraine Gray said: ‘I’m pleased to announce this year’s funding today. This VSDF funding will help hundreds of workers get the qualifications they need for registration.

‘Since we started administering the VSDF on behalf of the Scottish Government in 2017 we’ve allocated more than £6.5 million of grant funding for workers to gain more than 6,000 qualifications.

‘Having a qualified and registered workforce is vital to the delivery of high quality social care services by a trusted, skilled and confident workforce and I’m delighted we can provide this support through the VSDF.’

We work in partnership with the Scottish Government and the Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland (CCPS) to make sure the funding is distributed fairly and equitably.
