Strengthened fire safety for people who receive care or support

The Scottish Government has produced new guidance to reduce the risk from fire in specialised housing, such as sheltered and supported accommodation.

Older people and people with physical, sensory or mental health issues are at increased risk of injury or death from fires.

The guidance, Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Specialised Housing and Similar Premises, helps people responsible for housing and those who provide care and support services in these properties to carry out fire safety risk assessments, taking into account the requirements of individual residents.

The guidance is a recommendation of the Review of the Fire Safety Regime in Scotland, following the fire at Grenfell Tower in 2017.
