Social care workers are among the first groups to be offered the COVID-19 vaccine. The details of the priority groups are in Annex C of this letter from the Chief Medical Officer.
It will only take a few minutes to get the COVID-19 vaccine and it’s free.
Concerns
Public Health Scotland has specific information for social care workers.
If you have concerns about having the COVID-19 vaccine you should speak to your line manager in the first instance.
The vaccine is approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The MHRA will only approve a vaccine for supply in the UK if the expected standards of safety, quality and effectiveness are met. It will continue to be monitored throughout the vaccination programme.
SSSC registration
We recognise there may be some reasons or situations when registered workers are not able or decide not to have the vaccine. This will not affect your SSSC registration status.
Infection control
It is still important to maintain all the other mitigating actions to help limit the spread of COVID-19 including:
- appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- social distancing
- regular hand washing
- enhanced cleaning routines
- keeping workwear clean and only wearing it when you need to.
