Group applications open for Scottish Improvement Foundations Skills programme

We are working with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) to offer social service workers the chance to undertake the Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills programme starting this spring.

The Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills programme (SIFS) is a quality improvement learning programme developed by NES. It can be delivered by people who have successfully completed the Scottish Improvement Leader programme (ScIL). We are working with NES to make SIFS more accessible to social service workers and as part of this plan are looking for a small number of social service organisations to test this learning with workers.

What is the SIFS programme?

SIFS is for all staff working in health and social service organisations who have an interest in improvement. Its aim is to support individuals to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to contribute to improvement in their service and test, measure and report on changes made. It supports learners to use the model for improvement and associated tools and techniques.

How will the programme be delivered?

Seven sessions will be delivered in an online learning environment. Each session lasts for 90 minutes and participants spend a further 90 minutes each week on a practical improvement project. For this group, sessions will take place every other Tuesday, starting in April 2021.

To successfully complete the programme learners must:

  • attend and actively take part in all seven virtual learning events
  • complete a work-based improvement project and share progress using the templates provided.

Participants must be able to commit to all session dates and have the full support of their line manager.

Submit your note of interest

We would like to work with three organisations and have each organisation nominate five workers to take part.

Your note of interest should include:

  • your name and contact details
  • confirmation of how many places your organisation would like (maximum five per organisation – all participants must be available for all seven sessions)
  • why you would like your organisation to take part in this programme
  • how participation in SIFS fits with your organisation’s goals and improvement plans.

Please email your note of interest to leadership@sssc.uk.com by 29 January 2021.
